Alexander Brothers Face Additional Civil Sexual Assault Lawsuit in Colorado

pike-headshot-v2-2

On January 3rd, 2025, the Miami Herald reported that the Alexander brothers—the notorious real estate investor duo from South Florida—are facing an additional civil sexual assault lawsuit in Colorado. Oren and Alon Alexander were recently arrested and charged with multiple federal sex offenses, including sex trafficking and rape. Here, our Miami sexual assault and battery lawyers provide a more detailed overview of the case.

Oren and Alon Alexander are Facing Serious Sex Crimes Charges

Oren Alexander and Alon Alexander are twin brothers. Along with their older brother Tal, they are facing serious sex crimes charges in Florida. These felony allegations include charges of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and of sexual battery. The alleged sexual abuse occurred over more than a decade. According to federal prosecutors in South Florida, the twin brothers used their prominent positions in the luxury real estate market to facilitate a scheme involving drugging, sexually assaulting, and raping several dozen of women. The accusations are horrific. They detail that the brothers lured victims with promises of luxury experiences—only to commit terrifying acts of violence and sexual exploitation. For their part, the brothers deny any wrongdoing.

An Overview of the New Civil Lawsuit (Filed in Colorado)

In a recent civil lawsuit filed in Colorado, a woman named Maylen Gehret accuses Alon Alexander and Oren Alexander of drugging and raping her in Aspen in 2017. Notably, she was only 17 years old when the stomach-churning act of violence that she alleges happened. The civil assault lawsuit states that Ms. Gehret met the twin brothers during the Winter X Games. She contends that Alon Alexander assaulted her in a hotel bathroom, while Oren Alexander attempted to assault Gehret’s friend. Ms. Gehret’s lawsuit is brought under Colorado’s Child Sexual Abuse Accountability Act. It extends that statute of limitations for civil sexual assault claims for victims who were minors.

Criminal and Civil Sexual Abuse Cases are Separate Legal Claims

A perpetrator who commits an act of sexual abuse may face both criminal charges and civil charges. These are separate legal proceedings. Criminal cases are prosecuted by the state and aim to punish the offender for breaking the law. The standard of proof in criminal cases is “beyond a reasonable doubt.” It requires the prosecution to establish the defendant’s guilt to a very high level of certainty. On the other hand, civil cases are typically brought by the victim seeking compensation for damages suffered due to the abuse. The standard of proof in civil cases is “preponderance of the evidence.” The victim must show that it is more likely than not that the abuse occurred to prevail in court.
