Diddy Faces Civil Sexual Assault Lawsuit in Florida

West Palm Beach Business Litigation Attorney 2023-01-26 16-49-13

According to a report from NewsNation, Diddy is facing a new civil sexual assault lawsuit from a man in Florida. Currently, Diddy (Sean Combs) is incarcerated at Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institute in New Jersey. He is being held in federal prison due to a conviction on felony prostitute charges. Here, our West Palm Beach civil sexual assault and battery lawyer provides a more comprehensive overview of the allegations.

Background: Sean “Diddy” Combs Faced Many Sexual Abuse Allegations

For years, Sean “Diddy” Combs faced allegations of sexual abuse and sexual misconduct. A number of different women came forward stating that he used his fame and power to manipulate intimate relationships and engage in exploitative activity. In many cases, they also alleged that Mr. Combs covered up his misconduct through settlements. The claims spanned decades, involved former partners and associates, and included accusations of non-consensual sexual encounters.

In 2025, Mr. Combs stood trial on federal charges including racketeering, sex-trafficking and transportation for prostitution. A jury in Manhattan acquitted him of the most serious: racketeering and sex-trafficking. However, he found him guilty on two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution. Mr. Combs was given a prison sentence of four years and two months following his conviction. He also received a $500,000 fine and five additional years of supervised release.

New Civil Lawsuit Against Diddy in Florida

As confirmed in reporting forms NewsNation, a new civil sexual assault lawsuit has been filed in Florida by a man named Jonathan Hay. It adds to the growing list of claims against the music producer. Mr. Hay accuses Mr. Combs of sexual battery, false imprisonment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He alleges that the assault occurred in 2020 while he was working on a project involving the estate of The Notorious B.I.G. The suit also names C.J. Wallace, B.I.G.’s son, and producer Willie Mack as defendants on the grounds that they facilitated the attack. Both men deny the allegations. For his part, Mr. Combs has not publicly responded to the Florida filing. The case comes as Combs pursues an expedited appeal of his criminal conviction and sentence.

Note: The standard of liability in a civil assault claim is lower than the standard in a criminal case. Although a person on trial is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, civil cases are governed by the preponderance of evidence standard. In civil court, victims only need to prove that it is “more likely than not” true that the defendant is liable.
