Driver Lifted After Commercial Truck Crash in Florida

According to a report from 7 News Miami, a driver was airlifted to a local hospital after a crash with a tractor trailer in Miami-Dade County. The accident is still under a more thorough investigation by local law enforcement. Though, as two tractor trailers collided at an intersection and overturned, the crash damage was significant. Here, our Miami truck accident attorney discusses the crash in more detail.
Major Tractor Trailer Crash Causes Serious Injury in Miami-Dade County
As confirmed by reporting from 7 News Miami, local emergency response personnel in Northwest Miami-Dade responded to a serious crash involving two tractor trailers. The wreck forced the closure of a major roadway for several hours on Wednesday morning. The collision occurred at approximately 6:55 a.m. at the intersection of Okeechobee Road and Northwest 170th Street. A representative from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) stated that the two commercial trucks collided in the intersection, causing both vehicles to overturn. The heavy force of the crash scattered debris across the roadway and led to a fuel spill that required an extensive cleanup effort. Sadly, one of the truck drivers suffered serious injuries in the crash. Because of the overturned trucks and hazardous materials on the roadway, authorities shut down all northbound lanes of Okeechobee Road near Northwest 170th Street for several hours.
Commercial Truck Accidents Often Cause Major Damage and Traffic Disruptions
Commercial truck crashes often cause far more disruption than typical passenger vehicle accidents. Tractor trailers are large vehicles that may weigh up to 80,000 pounds when fully loaded. When a crash occurs, the size and weight of the trucks often block multiple lanes of traffic. Overturned trailers can span across an entire roadway. These incidents frequently require extensive response efforts from emergency crews. Firefighters, law enforcement officers, and hazardous materials teams may all respond to the scene. When a truck overturns or sustains heavy damage, debris and cargo can scatter across the roadway. Fuel spills are also common in serious truck collisions.
A Thorough Investigation of a Commercial Truck Accident is a Must
After a serious commercial vehicle crash, investigators typically conduct a detailed examination of the circumstances surrounding the collision. Police may analyze physical evidence from the crash site, including vehicle positions, debris patterns, and roadway conditions. Investigators often review driver-related factors as well. Commercial truck drivers must follow strict safety rules under federal and state regulations. Do not rely on police officers or (especially) insurance companies for an investigation.
