Fuel Spilled After Major Semi-Truck Rollover Crash in Fort Lauderdale

Edited Firm photo for website

According to a report from NBC 6 South Florida, a major eighteen wheeler rollover accident resulted in a large amount of fuel being spilled on a highway in Fort Lauderdale. Six people suffered injuries in the accident. Four of whom were transported to the local hospital for an evaluation. The commercial truck accident is still under a more comprehensive investigation by police. Here, our Miami truck accident attorney provides a more comprehensive overview of the crash.

State Highway in Fort Lauderdale Temporarily Halted After Tractor Trailer Rollover

As confirmed in reporting from NBC 6 South Florida, a rollover crash involving a tractor-trailer on State Road 84 within the City of Fort Lauderdale caused several injuries and major traffic disruptions. The truck overturned in the eastbound lanes near Interstate 95 (I-95). The large commercial vehicle came to rest on an overpass alongside two pickup trucks. Fire rescue crews reported six injuries, with four people transported to local hospitals. The good news is that, thankfully, none of the six injuries were severe. All victims are expected to make a full recovery. Notably, a diesel fuel spill in the rollover crash forced lane closures for several hours. The major accident is still under a more comprehensive investigation by local authorities.

Commercial Truck Rollover Crashes are Extremely Dangerous

Eighteen wheeler rollover crashes have the potential to be amongst the more serious wrecks. They can pose an extreme danger to everyone on the road. Tractor-trailers carry massive weight and a high center of gravity. That makes them inherently more likely to overturn during sudden maneuvers, sharp turns, or overly-harsh braking. When a rollover crash occurs, multiple lanes can be blocked in mere seconds. That increases the risk of secondary collisions, especially on South Florida’s often busy highways. Beyond that, fuel spills, cargo debris, and vehicle intrusion create additional hazards for drivers and first responders. Occupants of smaller vehicles face a heightened risk of catastrophic injury or death. Alarmingly, 75 percent of people seriously hurt or killed in truck accidents in the United States each year were the occupants of other (smaller) vehicles.
