Miami Herald Reports on Doctor Who Allegedly Sexually Assaulted Patient

daniel-portrait-v2

On April 28th, 2026, the Miami Herald reported on the story of a doctor (Ronald DeMeo) who is accused of sexually assaulting a patient. Dr. DeMeo is facing a felony sexual battery charge as well as a civil sexual assault lawsuit. Here, our Miami civil sexual assault lawyer provides a more comprehensive overview of the case.

What We Know: Doctor Arrested for Sexual Battery of Patient in South Florida

As confirmed by reporting from the Miami Herald, Miami cosmetic surgeon Ronald “Ron” DeMeo has been arrested and accused in multiple sexual battery cases involving former patients. According to court filings, one woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted while sedated during a cosmetic procedure at Dr. DeMeo’s Miami office. Another woman later came forward with separate allegations involving an earlier incident. It is alarming because patients are required to place enormous trust in doctors. Allegations that a physician exploited that trust for sexual abuse have shaken many people across Florida. Notably, authorities have suspended Dr. DeMeo’s Florida medical license and civil lawsuits have been filed.

Sexual Assault By a Doctor is a Serious, Terrifying Breach of Trust

Cases involving alleged sexual abuse by a medical provider are especially traumatic because victims are often placed in vulnerable, isolated, or medically compromised situations. Many survivors struggle with shock, shame, fear, or confusion after the incident. Some do not immediately report what happened. Florida law allows victims of sexual assault to pursue civil claims for compensation and accountability in addition to any criminal proceedings brought by prosecutors. Civil claims may seek damages for emotional trauma, psychological treatment, medical expenses, and other long-term harm. Survivors should know that they are not alone. There are resources available.

Third Parties May Also Be Liable Through a Civil Sexual Assault Claim

A medical professional who commits an act of sexual violence can and should be charged with a crime. He or she can also be sued civilly. The victim may also have a viable claim against a negligent third party. Indeed, in some cases, in some cases, legal responsibility for sexual assault extends beyond the individual wrongdoer. Under Florida law, hospitals, medical practices, surgery centers, and other institutions may face civil liability if their negligence contributed to the abuse. A third-party claim could arise if an organization ignored prior complaints, failed to conduct an adequate background check, neglected patient safety protocols, or retained a doctor despite warning signs of misconduct. Medical employers and affiliated entities have a duty to take reasonable steps to protect patients from foreseeable harm.
