Tanker Truck Crash Causes Enormous Fire in South Florida

On May 26th, 2025, NBC 6 South Florida reported that a tanker truck crash sparked an enormous fire in Broward County. The driver of that truck suffered a serious injury in the incident. The accident is still under a more comprehensive investigation. It highlights the inherent dangers posed by trucks that are hauling hazardous materials. Here, our West Palm Beach semi-truck accident lawyer explains what we know about this fiery crash.
Major After Tanker Truck Accident in Broward County
A major tanker truck crash happened in Broward County on the morning of May 25th. The accident ignited a huge fire on Interstate 595 (I-595) in Davie. NBC 6 South Florida confirmed that a gasoline tanker was going westbound when it sideswiped a disabled, unoccupied transit bus that was parked on the left shoulder of the highway. The impact caused the tanker to strike the median wall and continue for approximately one-tenth of a mile before it erupted into dramatic flames
The resulting fireball sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky. It was visible for miles and witnesses described the scene as an extreme fire that carried intense heat from the blaze. Emergency crews from Davie Fire Rescue, Sunrise Fire Department, and Broward Sheriff’s Office HazMat teams responded to the scene and were eventually able to control the situation. The truck driver was injured in the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is still investigating the incident.
Tanker Truck Accidents are Extremely Dangerous
Tanker truck accidents are extremely dangerous due to the hazardous materials these vehicles often carry—such as gasoline, chemicals, or other flammable substances. When a tanker truck is involved in a crash, the risk of fire, explosion, or toxic exposure is always a big concern. These accidents can cause catastrophic injuries. Truckers and trucking companies need specialized licenses in order to transport hazardous materials in Florida.
