Victim in Alexander Brothers Sexual Assault Case Goes Public

West Palm Beach Business Litigation Attorney 2023-01-26 16-49-13

On June 2nd, 2025, the Miami Herald reported that one of the victims in the Alexander brothers sexual assault case has come forward and brought her story to the public. Unfortunately, it was not entirely her decision. 39-year-old New York City artist Lindsey Acree came forward days after a New York judge denied her motion for continued confidentiality and days before her name would have been released by the court. Here, our Miami sexual assault lawyer for victims discusses the matter in more detail and explains the right of victims of sexual violence to remain confidential when filing a civil claim.

Background: Real Estate Alexander Brothers Face Serious Sexual Assault Allegations

The Alexander brothers—Oren, Tal, and Alon, once prominent luxury real estate figures in Miami and New York— are facing very serious federal criminal charges, including rape, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. Among other things, they are accused of luring women with promises of luxury, then drugging and sexually assaulting them. Notably, there are allegations that sexual misconduct has occurred for more than ten years. The Alexander brothers are facing both felony criminal charges as well as several civil sexual assault lawsuits.

Victim has Come Forward After Losing Court Petition to Keep Confidentiality

As confirmed in reporting from the Miami Herald, Brooklyn-based artist Lindsey Acree has publicly identified herself as one of the plaintiffs in the civil sexual assault lawsuit against the Alexander brothers. Ms. Acree’s decision followed a court’s denial of her petition for confidentiality. She joins several other women in alleging that the brothers used their wealth and influence to perpetrate sexual violence. Notably, she would have preferred to retain her privacy. The decision by the New York court emphasized a challenge the victims face when trying to seek justice.

Understanding the Legal Options for Staying Confidential in a Civil Sexual Assault Case

Under Florida law, survivors of sexual assault who pursue civil claims have legal mechanisms to protect their identity. One common option is filing under a pseudonym—such as “Jane Doe”—to remain anonymous in public court records. Florida courts may grant this request if the plaintiff shows a legitimate privacy interest. While the presumption favors open court proceedings, judges have discretion to balance the survivor’s privacy with the public’s right to access. Even if they cannot keep their name out of the public record, sexual assault survivors do have some other options available. For example, they can  also request protective orders to shield sensitive evidence and to limit its public disclosure during discovery.
