A covenant not to compete is an agreement in writing where in one party agrees that that person will not compete in the same type of business as the other person that is part of the agreement for a specific period of time and for a specific type of trade. The agreement must be limited as well in terms of the geographic area and must be signed by the person who is agreeing not to compete.
