West Palm Beach Teenager Killed in Tragic Car Accident

Accident5

According to reporting from The Palm Beach Post, Malicki Frett, a 15-year-old boy from West Palm Beach, passed away after sustaining severe injuries in an auto accident. The teenager was one of eight different people hurt in a three-vehicle collision that happened in Jupiter, Florida in the middle of July.

It is a heartbreaking and truly tragic loss for our community. A promising student and a member of the Palm Beach Gardens Gators—a locally renowned Pop Warner football team that won back-to-back national championships—Malicki was remembered by his coaches as a “great kid”. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.

At Least Eight People Were Hurt in the Crash, and a Juvenile Remains Hospitalized

Three different vehicles were involved in the Jupiter crash. Law enforcement officers told reporters that the collision occurred at the intersection of Indiantown Road and Pennock Lane in the Western part of Jupiter. It is a notoriously busy and dangerous intersection. A large amount of fast-moving traffic navigates through this area. All three cars involved in the accident had heavy damage and one was on fire. Palm Beach County firefighters responded to the scene of the crash to put out the fire.

Law enforcement officers have only released limited information about the root cause of the collision. The crash happened just after sunset, in the twilight hours. Six other people sought emergency medical attention in relation to the accident. The Palm Beach Post reports that one other juvenile male who was hurt in the crash is still in the hospital. The young man’s identity and specific condition have not been released.

Motor Vehicle Accidents are the Leading Cause of Death for U.S. Teenagers

We have a serious problem with traffic safety in this country. In many ways, our young people are bearing the brunt of the burden. It is devastating that so many lives are ruined in preventable crashes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of deaths and catastrophic injuries for American teenagers.

According to the federal agency, 4,054 teenagers (13 to 19) were killed in car accidents in the United States in 2018 alone. To put that number into another perspective, that means that an average of 11 teens are killed in traffic collisions every day. Teenagers are at heightened risk of being involved in a crash as a driver, passenger, pedestrian, and bicyclist.
