What is copyright?

Copyright is the protection of original expression that is fixed in a medium of expression. In other words, copyright protects the expression of an idea, but not the idea itself. You have to have some form of originality in order for the copyright laws to protect a work. You also have to make sure that the work is fixed or written in some form of medium which can be reproduced in the future.
